Department of Motor Vehicle
What do I need to bring with me to the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) Agency to get a new driver's license? There is no MVC office in Monroe. The closest one to Monroe is on Route 18 south in East Brunswick, in the same shopping center as the Hong Kong supermarket and Pet Smart.

You need to have six points worth of documentation with you.

Electric
Who do I contact if power goes out? Jersey Central Power and Light is the company that provides electricity to Monroe. You can call them at 1-888-544-4877 to report a power outage.
Environmental
If I have a concern about wetlands who should I contact? Monroe has an in-house Environmental Protection Manager, John Riggs. He can be reached at (732)- 521-4400 ext. 118.
Does the township provide solid waste pickup? No, Monroe Township Residents contract privately for their own solid waste pickup. Two companies that currently service our Township are:

Healthcare
Who do I contact for assistance with Medicare? If you are having problems with your Medicare you can contact the two Ship Counselors Judy Kalman and Laura Petix by calling the Office on Aging at (732) 521-6111. Appointments are necessary.
Housing
If I have a problem with a contractor who do I call? You can contact our Public Advocate Helga Stoessler. As public advocate Ms. Stoessler serves as a liaison between township residents and businesses. She resolves conflicts confidentially, works with other Township Departments to resolve issues, and assists residents who are dealing with county and state agencies.
Do I need a permit for a shed, deck or fence? A zoning permit is required for any fence, patio or shed that is less than 100 square feet. Any deck, shed over 100 square feet, in-ground or above-ground pool requires a construction permit in addition to the zoning permit. The Construction Department can be reached at (732) 656-4585 and Planning and Zoning can be reached by calling the main number (732) 521-4400.

Who should I contact about my homestead rebate? You should contact the State Department of Treasury. You can visit it online at http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/ or by calling the Homestead Rebate Hotline for Homeowners 1-888-238-1233 from 8:30am - 4:30pm, Mon. - Fri.
When are tax bills due? Tax bills are paid quarterly and are due into the tax collectors office by Feb. 1, May 1, Aug. 1 and Nov. 1.
Can I receive reduced property taxes? Yes, the State of New Jersey offers property tax reductions to veterans of war, low income senior citizens, and disabled persons.
How can I receive information about the assessed value of homes in Monroe Township? Residents can visit the Assessor's Office and receive public access to Tax Maps and other sales information. Bound copies of the Tax List with Street and Owner's Name cross indexes for Block and Lot designations are also available.
How do I apply for reductions/exemptions? Applications for these programs are available on-line and can be printed and returned to the Tax Assessor's Office, 1 Municipal Plaza Monroe Township, NJ 08831.
Monroe residents can request forms by calling 732-521-4400, faxing 732-656-0239, by mail, or in-person.
Is anyone exempt from paying property taxes? Yes, most hospitals, schools and government properties are exempt from property taxes. Permanently and totally disabled veterans of war are also exempt from payment of property taxes.
In addition, many religious and non-profit organizations qualify for property tax exemption.
