PRESS RELEASE: Monroe Township Council Appoints New Council President and Vice President for 2026
Rupa Siegel sworn in as Chairwoman and Michael Markel sworn in as Vice Chairman
MONROE TOWNSHIP – January 8, 2026 – The Monroe Township Council held its annual reorganization meeting on Monday, January 5, 2026.
At the meeting, the Township Council elected Councilwoman Rupa Siegel as Council President and Councilman Michael Markel as Council Vice President. Both officials will serve in these leadership roles for the first time.
“I wholeheartedly support the Council’s selection of these upstanding residents to lead us into the future. I have the utmost faith that Council President Siegel will lead this governing body with professionalism and decorum,” said Mayor Dalina. “Council Vice President Markel has demonstrated his commitment and value to this Council time and time again, and I am confident he will continue to advocate on behalf of all Township residents. The Council is in good hands under their leadership, and I look forward to working closely with them in the years ahead.”
Council President Siegel expressed her appreciation for the confidence of her members. “I am honored to be entrusted with this leadership role and grateful for the support of my fellow Council members,” said Siegel. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the Mayor, Council, Township Administration, and community to ensure thoughtful decision-making, fiscal responsibility, and continued progress for Monroe Township.”
Council Vice President Markel also shared his enthusiasm for the new role. “It is a privilege to serve as Council Vice President, and I thank my colleagues for their trust,” said Markel. “I remain committed to listening to residents, addressing their concerns, and working diligently to enhance the quality of life for everyone in Monroe Township.”
Council President Siegel and Council Vice President Markel will lead the Township Council during their two-year appointed terms through December 31, 2027.
